Mrs. Dial is survived by one son, Peter Anthony Dial, III of Rolesville; four daughters, Heather Kimberly Dial Sellers and her husband Justin of Apex; Amy Dial Rice of Charlotte; Cynthia Dolores Dial of Salisbury; Lana Dial of Raleigh; four grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Barton of Pembroke, Wardell “Buckey” Barton Jr., of Wagram, and Beachmond “Beach” Barton of Coatesville, PA.; eight sisters, Helen Locklear and Peggy Hunt of Pembroke; Emma Jane Brewer of Fayetteville; Mabel D. Locklear of Lumberton; Doris Barton, Sally Ann Bullard, Mary Ann Graham and Linda Barton Dial of Maxton.
Our mother grew up on a farm with her large family throughout her childhood; she spoke often of her days there working with her mother, brothers and sisters and was quick to tell us how hard the work was and that we needed to study hard, stay in school and get a good education so that we would have a better life than she and our father. Having been raised on the family farm and having lived during the Depression, when life was so hard, Mother knew the value of a dollar and the importance of being frugal. She was a wonderful mother and cook. She was well known for her pumpkin pies, fruit cakes, collards, pound cakes, chitterlings and souse meat (head cheese).
She loved her family and she loved her flowers. More so, she loved roses. Because our father knew this and loved her, he gave her flowers; just not how she expected them. They came in the way of bushes and she had to tell him where to plant them until he was no longer able to do so. During her time at Wesley Pines we tried to make sure she had them around her as well as others close to her.
The family will receive friends at Locklear & Son Funeral Home, 916 Union Chapel Road, Pembroke, NC on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 14 at Dundarrach Baptist Church, 875 Hall Road, Shannon, NC, with Reverend Manford Locklear officiating.
The family requests that you make a donation to Dundarrach Baptist Church, Burnt Swamp Baptist Association or to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers in the memory of Mrs. Dial.
