Mr. Wilbert Lee Chavis, 75, of 390 Candy Park Road, Pembroke, NC died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Southeastern Hospice House, surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. Chavis was born in Robeson County on December 13, 1937. He is preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Levi and Mrs. Ethel S. Chavis; three brothers: Mr. Ronald Chavis, Mr. Earl Chavis, and Mr. James E. Chavis; two wives: Mrs. Betty Chavis and Mrs. Lois Chavis; and one loving son: Mr. Lyn Chavis.
The funeral will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Revs: Dr. Kenneth Locklear, Bill James Locklear, Carolyn Woriax and Bro. Prentis Harris III officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Sylvia C. Harris (James) of Lumberton, NC, Mrs. Geneva C. Thompson (Billy) of Greensboro, NC, and Ms. Cornelia C. Smith of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren: Mr. Tyler Chavis and Ms. Kayla Chavis both of Maxton, NC; one great-grandchild: Miss Amiya Clark; the niece that he embraced as his own daughter: Mrs. Sonya Chavis and her children who felt like they were his own grandsons: Bryce and Brock Chavis of Southport, NC; a sister-in-law: Mrs. Tina Chavis; a special friend: Ms. Lynette Dial and her children Alisa and Christopher; the Rev. Bill James Locklear and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
