Mrs. Katie Lee Carter Chavis, 73, 573 Cornith Road, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 pm Thursday at Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pembroke, the Rev. Johnnie Pollard and Rev. Stephen R. Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anna Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Chavis worked for many years in food services at Pembroke Elementary School. She was an avid caregiver, homemaker and mother to many. She attended Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years, where she raised her family, sang in the church choir and was active in Women’s Ministries.
She is survived by her husband, Luther Edmond Chavis, of the home; her sons, Wayne Edmond Chavis and wife, Annette, of Pembroke, Kenneth Roderick Chavis of Pembroke, Patrick Aaron Chavis of Pembroke, and Luther Bunyan Chavis, Jr. and special friend Joy Hunt of Pembroke; two brothers, John Edmond Carter and Harold Carter; six sisters, Essie Thelma Locklear, Elizabeth Carter, Mary Glenn Carter, Zula Flowers, Elmer Blackburn and Patricia Oxendine; three grandchildren of the home, Kenneth Roderick Chavis, Jr., Coty Allen Chavis and Bradley Chavis, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and special friends, Vivian Bell and Jennifer Bell.
Mrs. Chavis was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Lennie Z. Carter; her brothers, Gilbert Carter, Stancil Carter, Rencil Carter, James Nelson Carter and William Nelson Carter; her sisters, Levonia Lowery, Cattie Mae Hayes, and Zelma McNeill.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Wednesday night at Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pembroke.
