Mrs. Desser Graham Carter, 86, of 1179 North Chicken Road, Pembroke was born April 7, 1929 and departed this life on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at her home after an extended illness with her children by her side.
She retired from the Public Schools of Robeson County in 1996 after 30 years of service as a cafeteria worker dedicated to the food service needs of the children of Robeson County. She worked during her tenure at Deep Branch Elementary School and Pembroke Elementary School. Upon her retirement, she continued to work as a certified nursing assistant with Health Keepers Home Care Agency, in Pembroke, assisting the elderly and disabled in their homes, a service she enjoyed in addition to her gospel singing ministry, until her disability in November 2002.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Deep Branch Baptist Church with the Revs: James Edward Graham and Timmy Sampson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are six children: Kermit Graham(Lois) of Bessermer City, NC, Charles Graham(Norma) of Lumberton, Cynthia Newcomer(Jess) of Carlisle, PA, Roger Graham(Donna) of Pembroke, Doreen Marsh(Steve) of Denver, CO and Carol Bayne of Jacksonville, NC; an adopted daughter: Felicia Montique of Lumberton; three sisters: Goldie Hunt, Mary Hunt and Omie Locklear all of Lumberton; eighteen grandchildren; Natasha, Shawn, Derek, Scotty, Kelley, Bryan, Vincent, Madison, Paulo, Quint, Nic, Jonathan, Jarrett, Taylor, Chris, Cody, Conner and Tracy; twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
